New Roman Missal, Third Edition

Fr. Scott at consecrationSaturday, November 26, 2011 is the beginning of the new liturgical year and the inauguration of the season of Advent, the preparation period for Christmas.  This year it is also the inauguration of the New Roman Missal, Third Edition.  This is a new translation of the texts of the weekday and Sunday Masses and will be used in all English speaking countries.  This translation replaces the one in use since 1970.  While there are several changes in the texts spoken by the presider and the congregation, nothing essential in the celebration of the Eucharist has changed.  Download a copy of the people’s parts of the Mass showing the new and the previous versions.

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has devoted extensive space on its website to these new changes.  You will find background, history, and other resources including a set of Frequently Asked Questions.  Go to the USCCB Roman Missal website.

A recent article in the Democrat and Chronicle highlighted St. Mary’s and Blessed Sacrament and included comments from Fr. Kennedy.  Go to the D&C article.
