Stewardship
Opportunities to share gifts of your talents and time abound at St. Mary’s. Below is a partial list of positions, with a brief description below each one. Need more information? Please speak to a staff member, or call or email the Parish office.
Stewardship Prayer - O God, Creator and Giver of all things, bless our stewardship endeavors. Strengthen our faith, grant us a spirit of sacrifice so that with Your Grace, we may provide for the needs of Your people, Glorify You, and sanctify ourselves, through Christ our Lord, Amen.
General Volunteer Opportunities
Garden Club
Tasks consist of a Spring and Fall clean-up, May planting, and periodic weeding and watering throughout the summer.
General Office help
Provide assistance in the rectory by answering phone and greeting visitors on Saturday morning,
Saturday afternoon, Sunday morning, or a weekday evening (5PM to 7PM).
Collection Counters
Count weekly collections each Sunday at the Rectory. Requires 2-3 hours every 5 or 6 weeks.
School Partnership Committee
Participate as tutors and provide general assistance in our three partnership schools: Holy Family School, Martin Luther King Ir. School #9 and Community School #14.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
This ministry combines knitting or crocheting and praying as you make a shawl to be given to someone in need of healing or comfort or to celebrate a special event in life.
Senior Group
Welcomes the “elders” of our community to join our monthly gatherings for social and spiritual enrichment and to our monthly bus trips.
Faithful Artists
Display artwork of parishioners on the Art Wall in our Dugan Center.
Eastman Student Dinners
Prepare dinner for a group of Eastman Students at the Rectory.
Downtown Community Forum
Monthly gatherings provide an opportunity to explore issues and exchange ideas in an ecumenical, non-partisan, democratic and value-centered setting about current issues affecting the Rochester community.
Faith Formation
RCIA Team
Represents the parish community and introduces persons to the Catholic way of life, while guiding them through the process of the Church towards full initiation.
Religious Education
Opportunities to share faith with children from Pre-School through Grade 8 as catechist or classroom aide.
Youth Ministry
Works jointly with Monroe Clinton parishes for planning and programs for youth.
Children’s Liturgy of the Word
Gather with children and help them celebrate their own Liturgy of the Word during Mass.
Sunday Nursery (1 & 2 Yr Olds)
Help our Staff provide Childcare during the Family Mass in the Childcare Room in the Dugan Center.
Liturgy/Worship
Liturgy Committee
Shape our liturgics. Responsible for the seasonal environment (Advent, Christmas, Lent, Easter) with a view towards enhancing participation.
Mass Coordinator
Greets and coordinates activities of all ministers during Mass, especially the sign-in.
Bread Bakers
Prepares at home the bread to be consecrated and distributed at Mass.
Sacristan
Lights candles and sets up gifts of bread and wine before Mass. Cleans communion dishes after Mass.
Hospitality Minister
Welcomes the community with a friendly smile and a warm hello before Mass and distributes bulletins after Mass.
Words on the Wall (Projectionist)
Operates computer to project music and prayers for use during Mass.
Cross Bearer
Carries the cross in procession before and after Mass.
Lector
Proclaims the Word of the Lord and leads Prayers of the Faithful at parish liturgies.
Communion Minister
Distributes Communion at Mass. Opportunities to distribute communion at local nursing homes.
Usher
Assists with orderly seating of the congregation and collection of offerings during Mass.
Choir
Provides music for the Saturday liturgy and one of the Sunday liturgies from September to June. Weekly rehearsal.
Bell Choir
Enhances liturgical celebrations in a different form of music ministry. Weekly rehearsal.
Cantor
Lead congregation in sung participation at Eucharistic celebration.
Instrumentalist
Provide accompaniment to music at Eucharist.
Social Justice
Social Justice Committee
Responds to social justice issues of the Gospel and formulates plans to involve the total parish in the outreach response.
Bethany House
Volumeers participate monthly (on the 2nd Wednesday of the month) in that community’s evening liturgy and supper.
St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality
Volunteers help to prepare and serve Saturday brunch (9:30AM to 2:00PM) twice a year at St. Joseph’s House of Hospitality.
RAIHN - Rochester Area Interfaith Hospitality Network
Working with other downtown churches, the parish provides volunteers to spend a few hours during a designated week in sheltering, feeding, and caring for homeless families.
Tithing Committee
Meets quarterly to review requests and reach consensus on distributing the tithing portion of the parish’s weekly offerings.
Ministry Fund Committee
This Committee meets quarterly or as needed to discern requests for money from organizations and individuals. The Fund supports Social Justice programs in the Parish and community and funds new Social Justice initiatives (Seed Money).
Parish Life
Parish Pastoral Council
Provides leadership in conjunction with the pastor and staff for the mission and vision of the parish. Council members serve 3-year terms and meet monthly (on the third Monday) from September through June.
Finance Committee
Analyzes, plans, and audits parish finances and approves the annual budget. This Committee meets bi-monthly or as needed.
Stewardship Committee
Plans and implements the annual stewardship campaign. Coordinates fund raising activities.
Buildings and Grounds Committee
Meet monthly to make recommendations and establish programs for ongoing buildings and grounds maintenance.
Parish Life Committee
Plans and organize parish social activities.
